Who's Writing This

I'm Mitch. I'm a freelance features writer based in Melbourne. I've been covering payments, consumer finance, and adjacent oddities of Australian life for the better part of twelve years, most of it under a byline someone else was paying for. The Weekend Bulletin is where I write the pieces I want to write on my own terms.

My previous bylines include work at Vice Australia during its Australian editorial years, contributions to The Betoota Advocate (yes, the news side), and freelance for the weekend supplements of two of the Fairfax mastheads before that consolidation happened. I grew up in Adelaide, moved to Melbourne after university, and have been here since 2011.

I'm not a lawyer, not a financial advisor, not an accountant. Everything I write here is journalism, not advice. If you need advice, get it from someone qualified to give it.

Every piece is written by me. There is no team of ghostwriters, no AI-assisted content mill, no rewritten operator marketing copy. What appears here reflects what I actually think, based on what I've actually observed.

The Bulletin doesn't take direct advertising from operators, doesn't accept paid placement in editorial, and doesn't publish sponsored content dressed as opinion. Editorial independence is the whole reason this exists.

I do earn a small commission when readers sign up to some operators through affiliate links, disclosed on each piece where relevant. This does not influence the ranking, tone, or content of any coverage. I have written negatively about operators I have affiliate arrangements with, and I've refused operators offering higher commission rates for coverage I didn't want to write.
